How to Submit a Paper

1. Make sure your paper is in an acceptable format. We can accept papers in Microsoft Word, Rich Text Format (RTF), or Adobe Acrobat (PDF).

OPTION 1:

If you use a word-processing program other than Microsoft Word, look for an "export" or "save as" option in your program to save it as an RTF file. If you have questions, please contact the Senior Online Editor.

OPTION 2:

We can convert files from some programs into an acceptable format. Please contact the Senior Online Editor.

2. Write an abstract for your paper. Please limit your abstract to no more than two paragraphs. Please also select keywords. These are words that will help a user locate your paper through a search.

3. Submit the paper by emailing and . Please include the following things: an abstract; your article; and a curriculum vitae (CV).

4. If you have any questions, contact the Senior Online Editor.

Overview of the Process

Phase 1:

After an author accepts an offer to publish with SULR Online, the SULR Online team will carefully review the article and offer recommendations on substantive edits. Authors can expect recommendations on large-scale organization, the thesis, and the clarity and strength of arguments. During Phase 1, the SULR Online team will also gather all sources cited in the article.

The Senior Online Editor will send the author an email asking them to approve the recommendations. Generally, authors have seven days to review proposed edits and return a second draft to the Senior Online Editor.

Phase 2:

After SULR Online receives an author's second draft, the SULR Online team will carefully review your paper and offer recommendations on technical edits. Authors can expect recommendations on grammar, punctuation, formatting, and Bluebook rules. During Phase 2, the SULR Online team will also review all sources cited in the article to confirm that they support the author's assertions and that they are properly formatted.

The Senior Online Editor will send the author an email asking them to approve the recommendations. Generally, authors have seven days to review proposed edits and return a second draft to the Senior Online Editor.

Executive Edits and Mass Edits

After SULR Online receives an author's third draft, SULR Online will have the Seattle University Law Review's Executive Editor at Large and the Editor in Chief review the paper. The entire SULR Online team will also review the paper for any final edits.

The Senior Online Editor will send the author an email asking them to approve the final recommendations. Generally, authors have seven days to review proposed edits and return a final draft to the Senior Online Editor.

How to Revise Your Paper

If you publish this paper or a revised version elsewhere, for example in a journal, please send the citation of the new version to the Senior Online Editor. We will be able to inform repository users about the new version.

If you would like to post a revised version of your paper on the site, please follow the instructions in How to Submit; however, please specify when you submit the paper that it is a revision of a previously submitted paper.
